SORACOM Canal Group Configuration

When SORACOM Canal (“Canal”) is built with the User Console or the API, a Virtual Private Gateway ID (VPG ID) is issued for that canal environment.

To route the traffic of devices connected by SORACOM Air to go via SORACOM Canal, you need to create a group that includes the applicable SIM cards, and then configure the VPG ID for that group.

Here we shall explain how to configure the VPG ID.

Create a Canal Group

Create a Group

On the console’s Group Management tab, click on “Add,” and enter a name for the new group.

VPG ID Configuration

Configure the VPG ID as a SORACOM Air option for the newly created group.

Change Group for Applicable SIMs

To make the SIMs use the Canal, you need to configure them to be part of the newly created group by going to the SIM Management tab and selecting the applicable SIMs. This changes the group that they belong to.

Change Group for Applicable SIMs

By doing this, from the next connection onward, the SIMs that belong to this group will be routed via VPC Peering. Any devices that are already connected will need to be disconnected and re-connected again after the configuration change has been made (by setting the Air Plain Mode On/Off or the SIM status to “Paused”).
